about
Sara Forbes Made

Majesty was hers. It wasn't given in marriage. It wasn't bestowed upon her by conquering rulers. No. She was born into it. Her father was King. Her mother Queen. Royalty swam through her veins with joy. Magnificence adorned her like sweet perfume. She was a young Princess of Africa--strong, beautiful, studious, personable, and observant. But her fairy-tale reality was not to be. An army raided her village. They killed the King and Queen without mercy. The young Princess was taken as a slave. The plan was not to profit from her labor, but rather to sacrifice her to the gods. Omoba Aina was only 5 years old.

The work you see is in honor of this young Princess of Africa. Its playful decor pays homage to the childhood she lost. The misshapen edges and textures calls to mind the peaks and valleys that played out in the young Princess's life as she was rescued from sacrifice, and given a new name--Sara Forbes Bonetta--adopted daughter of the Queen of England.

Crafting Process

Each piece is hand crafted from conditioned polymer that is cured until perfection. Vibrant colors blend and bleed into each other during the process making each hand crafted piece one of a kind, both in color and form.
